Join the International Mediation Institute (IMI) and the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (CIArb) Greece Chapter for an interactive panel discussion centered on the IMI Draft Code of Conduct for Mediators. This public consultation webinar will tackle the real-world ethical dilemmas modern practitioners face.
The global expansion of mediation is pushing the boundaries of traditional practice. In a landscape increasingly shaped by diverse regulatory frameworks, cultural nuances, and hybrid dispute models, ethical guidelines have transitioned from routine exercises into strategic imperatives. They now represent a critical foundation for preserving public confidence in a rapidly evolving profession.
The Panel
The session will open with remarks from Ivana Ninčić Österle, IMI Executive Director, and Victoria Liouta FCIArb, Mediator and International Arbitrator. The panel will feature leading experts Dr. Haris Meidanis, Dr. Omer Shapira, Prof. Lola Akin Ojelabi, and Mary Walker OAM, who will be tackling topics that challenge the mediation profession:
· The Evolution of Neutrality: An examination of how mediators can transition from passive facilitators into active guardians of fairness.
· Competency Frameworks: An exploration of the boundaries between guidance and over-regulation, sharing insights into how ethics codes foster public trust.
· Global Realities and Future-Proofing: A pragmatic look at reconciling universal standards with local cultural norms, and identifying the ethical assumptions to be rethought for the next decade.
· Mediators’ Green Pledge: As IMI assumes stewardship of the Mediators’ Green Pledge, the panel will dedicate time to discuss how mediators can proactively mitigate climate change and foster more sustainable mediation practices to advance the profession.
Join us to explore the evolving ethical landscape and help shape the future of mediation ethics! We hope to see you online!
About the Second Round of Public Consultations on the Draft Code of Conduct
In May 2025, the IMI Board approved the launch of a Second Round of Public Consultations on the Draft Code of Conduct and established the Board Sub-Committee on the IMI Draft Code of Conduct to provide guidance and recommendations in advancing ethical standards for mediators worldwide.
As part of this process, a questionnaire has been created to gather input from mediators, stakeholders, and the wider public. Feedback from mediators and professionals around the globe is crucial: Comments on both the substance and implementation of the Draft Code of Conduct are welcome now.
